Simple New Baby Card with Balloons

July 13th 2013

It seems there are a lot of new babies on the way. Here’s a simple new baby card I made.

I used some new gel stamps that I picked up from Paperchase for the spotty borders.

I coloured the stamps with some stamping pens that I found in TKMaxx. You can get some good craft bargains from there. I also used the spotty border stamp to create the pattern on the box. For the balloons I just cut out the shapes and mounted them with adhesive squares for some relief. The strings are stamped on using the same set of gel stamps. The congratulations lettering this time is from a set of stickers from HobbyCraft.

Woven Paper Birthday Cards

July 13th 2013

I had lots of birthday cards to make in July and I was inspired by my sister-in-law’s profession in fabric and weaving to create this set of woven paper cards.

The most tricky thing was keeping the paper together whilst weaving it. In the end the best thing seemed to be to stick one end to a strip of card and then once secured onto the backing trim the edges. It did get a bit messy with the glue in some places. As usual the lettering was done with one of my stamp sets.
For the blocks I found a weave pattern via pinterest but here’s the original site Weave Pattern from Not Only Quilts

Weaved paper 18th birthday card

May 30th 2013

I made this card for my niece’s 18th birthday.

The background is made by weaving together a selection of japanese paper. This was quite tricky as when it came to sticking the weaved paper to the card it would easily come appart. In the end used double sided tape to secure the ends of the vertical strips. It was still quite fiddly getting the rest stuck in place. The numbers are stamped and mounted onto plain card to make them stand out.

Children’s Birthday Cards

Children's 2nd birthday card with giraffe

Children's 3rd birthday card

A couple of children’s birthday cards that I made recently. Both using paper from a set called ‘animal antics’. I used gel stamps for the lettering on the giraffe cars and a flower punch to embellish it a little.
For the 3rd birthday card I cut out the 3 with a scalpel and raise/emboss it.

Children’s Birthday Cards With Cakes

Children's first birthday cardChildren's 2nd birthday card

A couple of children’s birthday cards I made last year. I made these using some japanese paper and yellow foam to get some relief on the cakes. The lettering is done with stamps.
I decided to have 3 candles even thought it was a second birthday card as I think odd numbers always look more aesthetically pleasing and I don’t think the recipient had started counting yet :)

1st Anniversary Card

April 28th 2013

Another card made for a first anniversary. I was a bridesmaid at the wedding so I pressed some petals from my bouquet and saved them to use in this card.

One difficulty in doing this was sticking the very delicate petals to the card. I used double sided tape for this. It worked reasonably well as it can’t bee seen through the petals however I was very close to tearing them. I tend to use double sided tape for my cards because it is less messy than glue and you dont have to wait for it to dry. Also some glues I have used in the past loose their stickiness and parts of the card fall off. I’ve found double sided tape is a lot more reliable. Also you can buy 3 for £1 in most bargain or pound shops.

The background for this card is Emma Bridgewater paper and I used gel stamps for the lettering.

Sweet Jelly Babies Birthday Card

April 28th 2013

I made this card recently for a 30th birthday. Although the sweets cannot be eaten as they are stuck to the card with strong glue. The card also had to be doubled up so that it would stand because those jelly babies are quite heavy little things.

Simple Design Birthday Cards

April 13th 2013

For Girls: These simple cards were made with stamps with stamps for the lettering and some pretty Japanese washi paper. The hearts were cut with a heart shaped punch.

For Boys (or girls): I made these simple cards for some guys (always more difficult to make for I find). I made them with stamping for the lettering and a simple corner cut out design.
The other one I made with my corner punch tool (for the rounded edges) and some transfer lettering.

I discovered a new craft store near where I work and they sell loads of these scissors with different pattern blades! I couldn’t resist buying myself a pair. I also had an excuse to use them straight away on this card for my sister in law’s birthday.
